EAA AirVenture Oshkosh: The Ultimate AvGeek Paradise
I’m excited to share that EAA AirVenture Oshkosh is just around the corner, happening next week! For those who may not be familiar, AirVenture Oshkosh is the world's largest and most significant aviation celebration. Hosted by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), this event takes place annually at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, transforming the area into a bustling hub of aviation enthusiasts, professionals, and innovators.
The sheer scale of AirVenture is mind-blowing. Imagine this: more than 600,000 people from around the world converge on this small Wisconsin town for a week-long extravaganza of everything aviation. With over 10,000 aircraft flying in, the skies are filled with an incredible variety of planes, from vintage warbirds and homebuilt aircraft to ultralights and the latest innovations in aviation technology.
The atmosphere is anything and everything aviation, with workshops, forums, and exhibits. And of course daily airshows, including their signature night airshow on Wednesday and Saturday nights.
Since 2017, I’ve made it a point to attend AirVenture every year, and I can confidently say it's a worthwhile experience for any avgeek. From the moment you arrive, you’re enveloped in an environment that celebrates the past, present, and future of aviation. The camaraderie among attendees is unparalleled—whether you're an experienced pilot, an aspiring aviator, or just someone who loves airplanes, there’s a sense of community that makes you feel right at home.
One of my favorite aspects of AirVenture is to just meet people. As you're walking around, it's easy to stop and admire an airplane, and then all of a sudden you're talking to someone about it. It's also a chance for me to visit friends who live all around and who, like me, make it a point to attend AirVenture every year.
The daily air shows are nothing short of spectacular. Each year, the lineup includes a mix of precision aerobatics, historic warbird displays, and cutting-edge military and civilian aircraft demonstrations. The night air shows are particularly magical, with illuminated aircraft performing against the backdrop of the evening sky, culminating in a breathtaking fireworks display.
Walking through the extensive exhibits, you get to see the latest in aviation products and services. From aircraft manufacturers showcasing their newest models to vendors offering the latest gadgets and gear, there’s always something new and exciting to discover.
For me, attending AirVenture since 2017 has been more than just an annual trip—it’s been an adventure that rekindles my passion for aviation every year. It’s a place where I’ve made lifelong friends, expanded my knowledge, and created unforgettable memories.
